A New Hope, It’s Uncomfortable

Updated: Aug 30, 2023

Let’s start off with a quick disclaimer: regardless of the fact that I do love the franchise, this is not a post about one of the Star Wars movies. I’m pretty sure that immediately came to mind for some of you when you saw the title. However, it’s a title that coincides with my current state of mind.

I’m beginning to take more steps toward growing as a writer and last week in particular was very productive for me! Despite it being very uncomfortable and nerve-wracking, I took action to participate in contests and workshops. This reminds me of one of the quotes I read about being uncomfortable. “Whatever makes you uncomfortable is your biggest opportunity for growth - Bryant McGill.”

Even though I’m not fond of the notion of discomfort, I’ve decided to make my desire for growth bigger than that. Easier said than done, yes, but certainly not impossible. In addition, old projects that I had given up on have been brought back into focus. It’s going to be a long journey, but I have hope again! If being uncomfortable opens the door for growth, I suspect I’m going to be that way for quite some time.

On the opposite side of that, though, I can admit that I’ve been hanging out in my comfort zone a little too long. Hey, everyone doesn’t have the same pace, there are those like me who need more of a push to go beyond what they’re used to. With that being said, or rather typed actually, I have new hope for this writer’s life!

What are some things that make you uncomfortable? It’s definitely something worth thinking over. Just because it doesn’t necessarily “feel good”, I hope you learn to use that discomfort to fuel your growth. I know I am!
