Let’s Talk About Maverick

I’ve said it before and it’s worth saying again. Everyone loves a good movie, especially one they can watch repeatedly. That's a clear sign of how good the film is! A little over a week ago, I went to see the much anticipated Top Gun: Maverick feature and to my surprise, this has become one of those films for me. To be honest, I didn’t think I would particularly enjoy this motion picture, but I’m not ashamed to say, I’m glad I was wrong!

There are a few reasons why I admired Top Gun: Maverick. The first reason is that it was extremely easy to follow along with the story. If you’re like me, which I’m sure almost none of you are, then you haven’t seen the beloved first installment that brought about the sequel. Please hold back your appalled gasps. I have no doubt some of you are wondering, “How can you not have watched the 1986 number one film?!” Well…I wasn’t born then, and furthermore, my parents weren’t even married yet. Sorry, that’s too much information.

Anyway, I’ve only ever heard that the first Top Gun movie was good, but never had a personal interest in it until I saw this latest release. I appreciate that the writers made it easy to understand everything going on, even if you didn’t see the popular 80s flick. Another reason I commend this movie is that I’m sure there was a great amount of research required to write the storylines for both projects.

To study the ins and outs of a fighter pilot from their training to the execution of their missions in order to create such a mind-blowing story is so inspiring! As a writer, it reminds me how important research is. Another sign that this film was awesome to me is that I’m intrigued to see the first one and then turn around and watch the second one again. This is definitely a feel-good flick to come back to, and I will do so happily!
